This is only loosely a help question about the game...

what would you look for in a playmat for this game? (I'm assuming not included in the starter for now)

the options I have thought of vary between this being a reference and a cheat sheet...

one player per mat vs two players per mat
icons (full descriptions vs minimal 'reminders')
turn sequence (full vs just title)
dice (nothing vs show all sides)
dice (body parts vs all)
breed (starter vs all, short vs long)

Personally I wouldn't bother with a playmat since the rules are so short.

ok, so don't call it a playmat. Call it a rules sheet that is 27 by 18? Mr. Green

We don't need a playmat, but we do need something to support demos. It needs to help with the 4 states that dice have in the game:
  1. Usable dice that have not been used.
  2. Spent dice, Minused dice, dice that have been used.
  3. Stunned dice.
  4. Wounded dice.

After that, we need the "Seven Symbols", and the face icons (body parts only). Sequence of play (list) is also needed. Yes, that's about 80% of the rules, but it really would make giving a demo go very easily. They would also be useful for "Novice" events.

In my mind demo=playmat

I was treating them as the same thing and was thinking specifically about...

ok we can say it in this group, it'll be going live in the event list soon if not already...

The novice/sealed Daemon Diceâ„¢ events at gencon...

I'll through something together once we finalize on the rules a little more. I think we are close except for play testing balance and finishing the breed abilities.

I would add a 5th section to the demo mat. an area for the attacks to go.

its a little thing, but would probably help out.

since it is a simple game, i'm gonna see if I can stay on a standard paper size to make producing easier (doesn't require a plotter). Gonna shoot for Ansi B (17 by 11) with quarter or half inch margins.

For a "cheat sheet" on any game, I would like to see the following:
Sequence of Play (including any necessary significant details)
How to play (ie: how to execute and resolve the steps in the Sequence of Play)
How to win.
Table(s) or summary of icons & effects.

Ideally, it could fit on one side of one page so everything is at a glance.

Is that apparent in the current rules or does it need to be high lighted as a section header?

After our playtests at PAX East, we have a new format/layout for the playmats. They will be posted soon.

The playmat will always be changing, so pick your favorite and go for it.

Miss Tiffany had another version of this at GenCon that was slightly more instructive, placing the boost icons as a second row underneath the attack icons.

Is that version available for download?

I thought it was online, but it appears to be corrupt when I DL it.

That version is on her computer, so once I get access to it I'll upload it again.
