To make sure I've not further descended into madness than I expected: is anyone else experiencing significant loading times when posting on these boards? Watching topics and general browsing works fine, but as soon as I try to post something or modify a post, my loading times go up to a 30 second minimum, and can easily reach a minute. It doesn't bother me too much, as I can usually make some tea or do something else in the meantime. But now that I'm playing a game, I am discovering that there is only so much tea I can make...

Just to be sure, I've already tried across multiple devices. Not multiple connections though. Is this a EU thing? Or is this intended behavior that is happening everywhere?

It's happening to everyone. Another thing that Cliff or I need to do is to update the software for the forum. We may end up archiving large amounts of the forum as well (it's been running since 2005....)

It's a pretty big job, because:
  • It's really old
  • We don't want to break all the old posts.
  • The original had a lot of customization.

If there is anyone out there that knows the nuts and bolts of phpBB and would like to help, please let me know....

Aaah, ok. Thank you for the update, that clarifies a lot! It is good to know that this is on the radar, I will patiently await an update.

Edit: is it smart for me to copy some posts before an update comes through? There are one or two write-ups that I'd like to preserve.

I've definitely had long wait times, but on some of my devices, it doesn't ever finish loading.

I would suggesting copying some posts, especially if it's few, to preserve just in case. I don't think it's likely that they'll lose content, especially if they're careful. But if they're important enough to you, then it's worth taking a few minutes to save just in case.

Unfortunately phpBB isn't something I'm experienced in.

I'm interested in putting phpBB on my list of things to learn. I don't want to waste your guys' time or risk doing anything to help with the upgrades until I think I'm competent enough to be comfortable with it, but I'd like to help. If you or Cliff can answer any questions for me to look into and learn better, I'm happy to learn.

What is the current version of phpBB?
What version do you want to update to? I assume the latest 3.2.2?
Anything you can share on what the custom code is?
And I think the biggest feature you guys want to preserve is formatting for forum games, right? (Outside of not losing post content, obviously)

Current version is 2.0.22

Updating to the latest version would be the goal.

We added a bunch of mods, may not need them.:

Accurate_BBCode_Insertion_Mod
add_multiple_ranks_1_3_5
allow_multiple_domains_1.0.1
BBCode_Ref_102.mod
bbcode_strikethrough_1.2.0
Complete Database Backup v1.0.1
Country_Flags
easy_admin_topic_notifier_mod_1.0.4
email_nospam_1.0.1.mod
Extended_PM_Notification_1.1.5
Forum_Permissions_List_1.0.1
freeze_postcount_1_0_3.zip
LMOAEV_Checked_by_Default_1_0
mod-profilcp-200-1.zip
mod-simply_merge_threads
modcp_extension_1.1.3c

smilies_in_topic_titles
smilies_order_1_0_0
table_bbcode_v124
TextualConfirmation-1.0.1

Biggest feature is to not lose old posts or formatting of them.
