ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Dragon Dicers,

We at SFR, Inc. are very proud to announce the incoming revised rule set for Dragon Dice™ – V4.0.

Dragon Dice™ is a long-standing collectable dice game which, over the years, has grown, expanded and bloomed into the game we know and love. With any collectable game, as the dice/card/option pool grows, it becomes important to refine the rules that support the game to ensure they accurately reflect the core nature of the system.

Dragon Dice™ has had a number of revisions over the years, but this one is different. Following feedback from the player community it became apparent that the number of changes that had occurred over the years had become hard to keep up with, especially given the size and scale of the full rules set.

From this point forward SFR are committed to this new format of rules. V4.0 represents the evolution of Dragon Dice™ and has been produced to retain the strategic depth that players have long enjoyed, whilst streamlining and unifying certain game elements, making the game easier to learn, teach and play. We intend Dragon Dice™ V4.0 to remain a constant rules set for years to come.

In support of the new rules, SFR will also be producing an FAQ, which will be updated periodically as the game continues to grow. The FAQ will answer many common questions about the plethora of possible interactions between game elements, timing and a range of other rulings as well without the need to re-issue the rules themselves. To ensure this is easy to follow, each time a new FAQ is produced, it will be prefaced with the additions since the previous release. By following this process, the core rules for the game can go unchanged and players can concentrate on the important stuff – playing more games of Dragon Dice™.

In addition to the FAQ, an online Wiki of the rules is also being produced, allowing players to quickly search the rulebook online for specific rulings. More details on this will be released soon.

We are also excited to announce that the Dragon Dice™ V4.0 Rules will be released in a full graphical format! Previously the full rules for the game were made available in text-only format. We recognise the significance of a beautiful and easy to follow rule book and so V4.0 has been made to live up to that expectation.

For long standing players reading this, we are sure there will be a little apprehension. To make sure the transition from Dragon Dice™ V3.0.4 to V4.0 is as painless as possible, we are producing a ‘Dragon Dice™ V4.0 Rules Summary’. This summary document details all the major changes that that occurred in the game (and where to find them in the new rulebook). Any changes that have been made, have been done on the basis of balancing the game as a whole. As you explore V4.0 you may come across something that has changed and may think, “oh no! I really loved that spell/ability/rule”, but don’t worry, nothing has been changed in isolation – when you play the game using the V4.0 rules you will soon see that each aspect of the game has been altered in line with another to create a far more balanced gaming experience.

Key aspects to Dragon Dice™ V4.0:
• Changes in language style to one which is less formal and more instructional.
• Revised layout including certain game aspects being labelled as ‘advanced rules’ – these rules may only be used in a game if all players agree on their inclusion.
• Changes to certain mechanics to make the rules more consistent and easier to remember.
• Balancing of some of the more traditionally ‘powerful’ game aspects to reduce the chances of specific combinations being abused.
• Reworking and balancing of racial abilities, thematically tying them to racial and/or terrain colors.
• Steps taken through a number of game aspects to nullify the effectiveness of ‘turtling’ (the act of pooling units into one large force to maximise output – usually magic). Many players in the community complained about this tactic being abused and V4.0 drastically reduces the effectiveness of such strategies in most army builds.
• The fight for the Eighth Face is now tougher than ever – the game has been balanced to ensure games are even more tense!

More information will be available in the Dragon Dice™ V4.0 Rules Summary, to be released alongside rules V4.0 on July 18th 2018.

We really hope you enjoy Dragon Dice™ V4.0 as much as we have enjoyed creating it. We believe this marks a big step in the evolution of the Dragon Dice™ and hope you’ll join us on the adventure to come.

Big love,

SFR, Inc.

Version 3.0.4a will be the official rules used at GenCon. However, look us up at GenCon and ask about the "super secret" games. We will be playing some games with the 4.0 rules. Just too late to put up on GenCon's official events listing.

All perfectly legal in the new "Misfits Army" format.
