I don't usually write derivative or fanfic style works... but I've begun a story for this years NaNoWriMo challenge called From the Ashes of Esfah.

I write... a lot. I've got a few series that I write and publish (mostly SF/F) and of course, understanding that this is a trademarked property, I am intending to change the trademarked elements in a later draft unless SFR expresses an interest.

My main reason for posting (besides sharing a project that I'm super excited about) is to find some people who might want to either give it a read as a beta reader or find folks who can be a resource on finer points of Esfah culture and geography in case i run into any snags (I did a bunch of research and outlined the story and characters a few months before beginning the project and I'm already over 15,000 words since thursday! That's like 50 pages).

I think you will find a few people that hang out here that would be willing to help you out with this project. Steve Braun is most likely our expert on Esfah.

"Their skin as red as hot iron".

PM me your address, I'll send you a copy of Cast of Fate.

thanks Chuck! is there any other resource for the other races as I write this? Dwarves are easy, and the main protagonist is a dwarf, but he has interaction with many other races (such as amazons).
PM on the way

Do you have the booklets that came with the Shield, and Battle Mats? Let me get together a entire set of all the rules, booklets, and other loose paper that came with all the TSR products. I'll throw all those into the box with the novel.

There's also summaries of the races in the Dice Commander's Manual. If you dont have one, there is a scan of the book in the forums.

the wheels are turning and I'm thinking I might add some small items to give it some unique litrpg features between chapters

Quick question for one of my subplots. Do The Troggs have any sort of pets? My adventures in counter a farmer who mentions in passing that his flock has been harried by there animals. It foreshadows a later Trogā„¢ attack... if not, no worries I can make something out. What would you suggest for them to keep

There are Wolfriders, wardog riders and Leopard Riders, so they could be considered pets

so I'm writing a flashback scene to an epic battle between a few heroes of old (my main villain is a reanimated undead who's primary desire--besides destroying all of Esfah--is to reanimate the corpse of his long lost love... it's quite tragic really.)
Anyways, I'm referencing a firewalker character... is there another name for their race? lava elves=Morehl™, coral elves=Selumari™, dwarves=Vagha™, and goblins=Trogs™... are there any other race names I ought be aware of? those sorts of tags really help keep the worldbuilding elements high

Somewhere in these forums, i recall seeing a list of the native racial names, though I dont remember who posted it, or how long ago.

This is the closest I've found:
http://sfr-inc.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2713&highlight=Morehl™

Which is probably all the same information you have. I've looked into some creative stories and work with Dragon Diceā„¢ and found this info from the early books and materials myself. I don't think the lore has ever given original names for any other races.

thanks! I had all of that info, though. I've always thought that some of the nomenclature (in fantasy, shouldn't we call it gnomenclature... I'll stop now) lent well to the worldbuilding of the system.
I gathered quite a bit of data on Esfah which I knew I would require for the story. Having written several fantasy books before, I place a high priority on maintaining the integrity of the mythos. (I've been priveledged to speak at SF/F worldbuilding panels alongside some bestselling authors... but that's just me bragging, now.)

as the story has developed, I've dropped little nuggets that hint towards a larger backstory with the gods, of course, only through legends previously unrevealed and gave a few other names... Death now has a name (though to speak it risks mortal peril) and Mother nature is also given a name, plus further hints that there may be more gods, such as Death's father, the Void (who personifies hell/limbo).

anyways, I ought to be writing! I'll hit 30k words today

I'm pretty seriously excited. I was discussing plot points with a writing buddy. I feel that this is not just a cool story set on Esfah... it's a good fantasy story (different than other fantasy story books that I've written... it's just a solid story. At it's heart, it's really about fathers and sons--i was having a tough time with my own son several years back in his awkward teen years and our big breakthrough was when we started gaming together... mostly Pathfinder).

If you're seeing this and its not past March of 2019, fee free to PM me if you're interested in reading a beta copy of the story once it's edited and ready for readers to provide feedback (tentative mid-January 2019)

quick help needed from the hivemind! What kind of breath does a white dragon have?

long ago this was a white dragon who was devoted to my main villain (formerly an eldarim but now undead)... the dragon is now undead as well and has been reanimated and he's about to blast a few Vagha™ side characters to cinders (or the equivalent)

White dragon's breath is based on the two colors of the terrain. So if this is taking place in the Highlands, the breaths are fire and earth.

However, if it's undead, are you sure it's not a Dracolich?

thanks! it is at a dwarven keep, so fire is logical.

It is something different. Dracolichs, historically, are made from evil dragons, and this one isn't necessarily evil (though his master has fallen... there may be a plot point in there somewhere.)
