Swallow/Group Monster
Brad mentioned this on the forum before.

Since the Group monster must reroll.... it can never roll an ID
So it is killed and buried.

This isn't a tip or trick (I don't think I have any tricks, except for knowing how to rig a demo really well), but this line reminds me of a die idea my son and I came up with (based on a S&JW Champion spoof). Unlike that one, all faces on this one are currently legal, active results:

Velociraptors (Group Monster): ID, Double Strike x2. Rend x3, Tail x4

All you need is one 8th face and a melee attack...unless your opponent attacks first, when they have a health advantage...

I was just thinking about the Black Dragon Breath. It says to ignore ID results, but the rerolling of a group monster is like an SAI resolution, so I assume that under a black dragon breath, you would go ahead and roll the group monster again to resolve the face, but when you finalize the result you would just ignore it, right?

That is correct. The critical phrase here is "ignore ID results". You don't ignore IDs, just their results. So Group Monsters always reroll the ID regardless of whether or not the ID results count.

If you read my post, I'm not claiming Velociraptors is an official Dragon Die. I don't think you can count fake dice as "tips and tricks." It's just a fun idea Robert and I came up with. (You did figure out that this was Robert working with me and not Jonathan, right?)

Although Jonathan used a cool trick in Battlefest (not original, but it worked well anyway): using a Gold Medallion in an all-Eldarim army. It's hard to take them out when that ID roll keeps bringing one back-and you can roll it a lot...like making a hopeless missile attack just to try to get it (kind of like missiling with Trolls). Not to mention getting a chance to reroll the medallion on a Flurry, or on a Wayfare if you move it to another army for the next march. All we need now is an SFR ID on it. Smile

Now, if you want a real, useful, and valuable tip, I can tell you how to set up a demo so that you will almost always lose to a prospective player without having to do obvious sandbagging... (Any newbies here who have beaten me in a demo, it wasn't REALLY rigged. You're just really good, and trounced me honestly. In fact, you're so good you should really buy more dice and start getting that collection up to speed for tournaments...) Very Happy

Gold Medallion/all-Eldarim army

OK ddicerc ,
The Velociraptors will be replaced
by the Gold Medallion in an all-Eldarim army

One thing I would change on the Velociraptors....
The Rolls would go on forever of course,
but then they also would never be resolved.
So I think at least one face should be something other than a reroll.
Counter maybe?
(I was thinking of the Velociraptors as an "Easter Egg".
Easter Eggs are Tricks or Secrets that are Typically embedded in video games for players to discover.)

You just don't see the secret strategy to using a Velociraptors. It has an ability that lets you win with one eighth face...

I did not see anywhere the mention of your opponent not having an eighth face.
This concept seems to rely on a timed game.

The real trouble is.....
I think you would be disqualified for not being able to make a timely turn.

I'm not a Judge...Yet Laughing
but there are rules about how long a player's turn can be,
though there is no time limit,
it is up to the Judge to decide...
so take your chances then. Wink

19th:
Dragonkin Tactics
Which Dragonkin to Select,
What Colors, Which Health,
What Increments,
Auto Saves

Dragonkin are wonderful absorbers of damage.(auto saves)
They are also a good use of magic, in case you just are not sure what to spell(s) to cast.(or have some remaining magic to spend)
Dragonkin can take a hit, when a unit needs to be declared.
If an army does not have much promotion built in it,
Dragonkin can be the promotional unit.
I like the Dragonkin Mount.(Maneuvers)
When a player summons Dragonkin, generally they are planning on digging in.
This tactic can also be used as a decoy.
Having an array of Dragonkin Health benefits Promotion,
and also protection from the spell Degenerate Dragonkin.
When Choosing which color of Dragonkin,
I like to balance the most matching color or the Army with the most possible doubling magic color.

Having an array of Dragonkin health also allows more options when choosing damage:
ie if you must take 7 damage,
if you had a few different health ranges in Dragonkin,
it may just save you from being forced to take a unit because of mathematical reasons.

If a Dragonkin Champion is in play...
Smite and Wings can add the same dimension as a Dragon Master. Cool

The Dragonkin Champion Breath and Rare Dragonkin Breath,
(during a melee attack),
choose units to kill...
(4 Health Dragonkin Champion, 3 Health Rare Dragonkin)
with no possible saves.
You can sneak past Dragonkin protection this way.

After a Dragon Attack,
try to make sure you have the right Dragonkin health
in the Summoning Pool to promote to, before taking damage.

Seize/Crush/Sneak Attack

This is absolutely my favorite SAI Missile attack. Cool

Surgical Missile attack.
The Trebuchet's Crush can even bury selected units.
Seize Selects 4 Health of units as well and
even if they don't get killed, the units run to the reserves.
The Seize icon is on several units,
I like to Use the Roc or the Phoenix.
The Phoenix can even protect the Trebuchet
while attempting to Rise from the Ashes.

Sneak Attack works during Missile (or Magic).
Using a Dragonlord or Dragon Master
also allows the Cantrip to come into play(during a Missile attack),
In the case of a Dragonlord, Pathing a unit carrying the Trebuchet.

21:
Anti-Dragonkin Tactics

Ok, so your opponent likes to use tons of dragonkin to help protect the eighth face once he's got it. How do you get around it? Two ways, one old and one new.

The old way is that oft overlooked Coral Elf spell, Degenerate Dragonkin. Cast this when you have no dragonkin in play, and he's got all of his out. In that case, all of his dragonkin are buried.

The new way is ivory dragons. Drop a couple of these on him, and all the dragonkin sit on the sidelines and watch. Worse yet, if he's retreated everything except his mages, he's going to have very little chance to kill them. He can't play "dragon ping-pong" using magic to move them. Suddenly, he's on the defensive.

Now you remind me of Pesty. He was the rules guru for the AvP CCG before I took the job from him. He used to answer multiple choice questions with a 'yes/no'.

22nd:
The Exchange:

A recent concept I tried that works nice with Firewalkers,
I call it the Exchange.
It works like this:
I did this in the all commons game,
Since the Sunburst mage has no 2 point icon side for magic,
the Sunbursts needed some help from the Blue Sight Stones.
The Horde Antelopefolk used Blue Speed Slippers to Win the Horde roll.
After the First Turn, Terrain Flight to the Horde, carrying the Sight Stones,
Now all the magic items are together,
Then next turn, Use a Terrain flight to carry The Speed Slippers Only to another terrain.

If your Sunburst get killed, you'll have sight Stones to "Breath of Life" them back.

23rd:
Call Water/Deadlands/White Dragon Breath

Since a White Dragon's Breath is determined by the terrain's color,
Add a Deadlands and a Call Water* to a Terrain,
to get 4 Breaths from a White Dragon.]

(I think this will work.....that is hehe) Wink

*Call water adds Green, so Call water will only work on terrains without green to add an extra breath.

24th:
Ultimate White Breath

Use the white breath to its fullest potential.

requires:
Dwarves
Any Black race
Coastland terrain
White Dragon

During magic actions, Dwarves cast create mountain on a coastland terrain, and a black race uses deadlands on that same coastland. Summon a white dragon there and when it rolls breath, it:

kills 15 health with no saves possible
kills 10 health with a save possible
5 health that are killed must save or be buried
IDs don't count for the army
army's missiles are halved
the army can only save
army's maneuvers are halved
