Well I survived frozen pipes...again... Rolling Eyes
captured a Racoon on Dec 24th, who has been living under my trailer for years...
and unfroze my car's gas lines...
its been a rough winter...
but I do see a silver lining.

Oh yeah...
my Birthday was the day after Christmas like always...

so I did end up getting one present this Christmas...

A Dragon Egg (that's what I call it anyways....)

http://www.ionicsalts.com/home-and-health.htm

it's a salt crystal lamp....

it's suppose to have healing powers...and the salt crystals refresh the air...

I'm sure it has to work over time...
so I'm still in the beginning phase.

The Dragon Egg would make a nice prize. Razz
I should be able to make it to the Misfit Monsters Match.

It's definelty fun to turn on...really glows great...and the crystals sort of sparkle in the grain.

There are quite a few varities to choose from...including what type of salt.
(It says Kills Dust Mites on the box) Twisted Evil

Unless the dust mites are walking on it somehow, I don't see how it could kill them unless it's emitting some sort of radiation. I mean, its just a chunk of salt with a light bulb in it, right?

Quote:
When gently heated by the light bulb, the ionic bonding of the salt molecule is disrupted resulting in the release of sodium and chlorine ions. When the two atoms are separated the chlorine atom takes an extra ion from the sodium atom, giving the chlorine atom a negative charge. This negatively charged chlorine atom is what removes any positively charged particle from the air such as smoke, pollen, dust mites, animal dander, odors, mold, bacteria, electro-smog and many other pollutants.

http://www.saltlampclinic.com/

Quote:
HOW YOUR SALT CRYSTAL LAMP WORKS:

Salt Lamps work in a similar manner to an air purifier: killing the bacteria and removing dust, allergens, smoke, odors, germs and mold spores. Salt Lamps never get dirty or dusty. Salt Lamps help you breathe and sleep better. Salt Lamps are also a beautiful addition to any room décor and function as a perfect nightlight creating a soothing, tranquil atmosphere.

When the lamp warms up, moisture in the air is attracted to the salt crystal and the crystal becomes moist.
This causes a field of ions to build around the crystal.
The salt lamp emits negative ions which counter positive ions (pollutants) in the air.
The negative ions emitted by your salt crystal lamp bind with the excessive positive ions.
The positive and negative ions cancel each other out.

and finally a color reference:

Quote:

THE HEALING EFFECTS OF COLORS ON OUR BODY AND MIND:

The various colors contained within each of the salt rock lamps also have soothing benefits as indicated in the list of colors below.

ORANGE:
Facilitates a feeling of security and is helpful to our nervous system and our mind. The kidneys and bladder are also activated.
YELLOW:
Encourages the vital life force and activates the heart and circulation.
RED:
Strengthens the vital life force and activates the heart and circulation.
PINK:
Supports the sense of partnership and love and opens your emotional body.
WHITE:
Has a cleansing and detoxifying effect and represents the healing aspect.
BROWN:
Helps find one’s balance and supports earthiness.

Warning: I'm not a chemist or a physicist. I'm an engineer that was awake during my chemistry and physics classes. So you can take this with a grain of salt. Rolling Eyes

Unless you are talking some high-powered light bulbs, there is not enough energy in a night-light bulb to break down salt. When you disassociate salt, it does break into a negatively-charged chlorine ion and a positively-charged sodium ion. Moisture (water) is attracted to salt at any temperature, but more so when it's warmer. Again, if this is a standard 7W night light bulb, it's only going to be a few degrees warmer than the room. So yes, it could emit negative ions that way. But it will emit just as many positive ions. And yes the negative ions will cancel out the positive ions. Mostly likely leaving salt all over the room.

And of course it's emitting radiation. That's what light is. As for the colors, there is a reason that most hospitals use colors that are around blue-green. It's just a color that's easy on the eyes.

Ionicsalts.com carries a full selection of bulbs for your salt lamp, whether you bought it from us or settled for something less. Our incandescent, candelabra-base (C7) bulbs range from 7W to 40W (current available stock may vary). Generally, either 7W or 15W bulbs are used, with higher wattages used in larger and/or darker-colored salt lamps.

The cable might be camouflage...err...camoflage....err....well, FAKE! Rolling Eyes

The salt was probably collected near the nuclear power plant at Tschernobyl!!!

Seen some more digging under the shed...
false alarm...
turned out to be a bunny rabbit. Very Happy

This cold air 7 days straight below zero...
found feathers in the snow...lots of them, but no blood...
then I found a Dove or pigeon...
guess this cold brings out the "true nature" in animals.

Arghh... these stupid plastic pipes...
they keep springing leaks behind walls.... Rolling Eyes
so now I have no hot water until I can unbury the cracked line.
I'm getting good at fixing these...so it's more of a hard to get at problem...not an expense issue.

Anyways...I think I know where the raccoon was getting its fresh water now...
probably have a leak somewhere don't even know about.

And it's Ground Hog Day....
so I'll have to relive this forever? Neutral
Talk about a loop....

Well I had a visit from the ground hog...
actually a squirrel raided my place.
Shocked

Since I was working on my water heater...I had the gas turned off...
this gave one a chance to slip down the flue...with a little help of chewing an entrance...
as the flue would normally be burning hot.

So I think it's gone...or else I caged it in when I blocked the hole.

And it 1 degees today!

Well I got the water heater hooked up anyways.

Fried squirrel is quite tasty. Or stew it with garlic, bayleaf, carrots and potatoes. It does taste like chicken. Laughing
