Some cybersquatter is auctioning off the rights to the address dragondice.com on eBay. AT one point this belonged to a DD player (I think Cliff Broadway), who was going to turn it over to SFR to use. However, the registration lapsed, and someone grabbed it and was trying to sell it to SFR for $500. Hence, SFR is now at dragondice.info (as well as sfr-inc.com) instead of dragondice.com.

The starting bid is one cent, and SFR has already bid on it. I want to strongly urge everyone connected with Dragon Dice™ to refrain from bidding on this auction. Sure, it'd be fun to be "dragondice.com," but in the process you create some ill will, and I can pretty much guarantee SFR will not pay anyone else for the rights to the name. Plus, after all this I'd like to see the cybersquatter get, well, squat for their grab.

Neither I nor SFR can stop anyone from bidding, but I think it is in the best interests of the game to refrain from doing so. Also, this is not an official communication from SFR, just a plea from a longtime player and collector. Please consider this seriously. Thanks!

We all know the core people around here, I would go for that UNLESS it was really needed even then I would give it to SFR, after all it should be your, NO our site.

Can you say "ostracized", "shuned", "banned for life". Yes, that's the kind of ill will I would feel. And that's when I'm in a good mood. Evil or Very Mad

Can you say, "Sent so far south that Steve & Joe would be considered their North Pole"?

Well, if they turned the name over to SFR at no charge, I'm sure Chuck would mellow out a little-whatever mellow means for Chuck. (Probably something along the lines of a Doberman rather than a Rotweiler, I suspect.)

Did it lapse or was it given over? All I know is that we had it pointin to our server for almost a year and the moment we started using it, it went up for sale.

At this point it doesn't really matter...

From Jake's history on eBay, it looks like he's a cybersquatter himself. The other bidder has done business with Chuck and Jason online, so maybe they know who it is.

BTW, if SFR needs to go higher on the bid, I'd be happy to chip in some cash. Just how high is SFR prepared to go? (Or, put another way, how much will we let some squatter blow before we tell him that it's all his and where he can stick it?)

Riolis,

I sent you a Private Message on the best way to help. Please, the best thing is for the initial scumbag to get as little as possible. Let me deal with this.

Everyone else should just stay away from the auction. If you have bid already, cancel your bid. Dragon Dice™ is a trademark of SFR. Therefore, dragondice.com is also a trademark of SFR. I will personally take legal action over anyone that takes that away from SFR. I was planning on dealing with the original cybersquatter myself as soon as I was a BoD member. But by putting dragondice.com up for auction yesterday, it's forced my hand.

Let's put it this way i asked one of the guys bidding on Dragon Dice™.com why?

"listen I am not a jerk I am no longer interested in the item but if they are so worried about the name than buy it already. I looked up the trademark and they let it expire so it is their own fault I am not a fan I thought it would be a good name for a casino

Thank you,
johnstontrpr"

but there was another resonpce i got that was good

"Hi, I was watching this auction and thinking about bidding. When I noticed you pulled out I did a bit of digging and found the answer on the SFR site. Thanks for bring this to my attention! Pete UK

Thank you,
goldbh"

Someone can attempt to purchase the name and try to slap it on a casino or whatever, but although the registration of the trademark is still being worked on, SFR owns the TM, and I for one would expect us to fight to keep it from being used in that way as a trademark violation.

Sausage making. Generic term that my lovely wife uses instead of the "you really don't want to know". Ok, for those of you that are subtlety-impaired, "I'm not going to tell you", or as popular in the news "No comment". Cool

Ok, your DNS may vary, but dragondice.com and (tada) dragondice.org are now pointing to the SFR website and appear to be working. Since we have dragondice.info, and I'm using dragondice.net for the webrings (in a sad and sorry state, but still working), we now have all the most common TLDs covered. The following all get you to SFR:
http://dragondice.net takes you to the webring.

holy moley! I was gone for two weeks, and look at all the interesting stuff that happened.

Good job--dragondice.com (or dd.com if available) will look much better in advertisements, with everyone so used to saying '.com' by now.
