Here is an example of a page in the book. Nothing flashy yet, just basics of what everyone will need to make a character. (Also I might be making a tweak to this for a new commander's manual Very Happy ) Also it looks cropped a little wierd, because I have to save in a weird way to post it here. So it will look more correct when finished.

as a one page view for quests i think this looks good. if you make this be a left page, the opposite page could be descriptions of the race etc.

The not so fun part is I have to remake some of the icons myself. Which takes more time, but when the work is done, we could make the icons litterally any size we want and not lose detail.

I was thinking of having the graphs on the second page, the ones that show statisics of their rolls. Maybe you could provide a simple chart with all the numbers and I could make a pretty graph for them

remake them?

Jim, is it possible you've already done some of this work as part of the rulebook?

I have all the icons as eps files. So they can be re-sized to just about any size and still look good.

Ok the problem is layers. The icons I am using are from the rulebook, problem is they all have a white square background. So when I have a face with say 3 swords, they overlap part of their white square background onto the other swords. If you don't quite understand I can post later what it looks like if I didn't make the icons myself.

The eps files have a transparent background. I'll post those files sometime soon (I'm really busy the next 5 days). If you don't see a post from me on this thread by Monday night, poke me on Tuesday.

Every icon has been vectorized.

Now not every file has been converted into a model with no white spaces.
Although, if you do have the vector file,
you can convert it.

Anyways,
if you are experiencing the white box,
it's probably not a vector file.
An EPS can be saved as a raster image,
or a vector file.

All the Icons have been converted to vector files.

I'm really not riding the wave on this project,
so I'm not as prompt with reading as resolving any issues you are encountering.

Quite simply,
everything is vectorized.
I know,
because I made sure of it.

Now just because a file is vectorized...
it may comprise of many layers grouped together.
So that is usually not an issue unless you are making molds,
and it need to be a whole model,
in that case...
the model needs to be flattened,
which requires a little skill, as you need to strip out the white areas,
which make them transparent.

The Amazons were done this way because there artwork was intricate,
and I did the traces in sessions.

The white areas, (not the white box)
show up as white spaces over the transparent model.
This is fine if you are using a white background.
If you are using a colored background,
you'll see white instead of transparent.
When I traced the icons,
some were done this way and I thought it looked cool.

Anyways,
besides white layers,
there will be black layers all formed to make a model as well.

Like I said,
it can all be unified...
but it would require individually examining every icon.

The vector files are easily converted for flat output. However, 3D output is another thing. There are some really weird paths that I can't figure out -- they're whole and complete in Illustrator, yet when imported into my 3D app they're missing paths -- particularly with small circular shapes.

The icons I used is from the rulebook. When I tried to scale them larger on illustrator they became pixelated Sad

My guess is that some small circular shapes are really open ended lines...
or shapes that were drawn with the pencil tool,
and never closed.

I had the same guess, but nope -- it isn't. I replaced the problematic paths with my own, closed shape but I still get the 'rips'. It's a weird, weird, problem.

However, there MUST be an open path somewhere that is causing the problems for these inner paths... if only Illustrator can identify open paths for you.

Whenever I encounter an issue within a file...
I copy the model...
and then create a new model.

There really should be no paths...
just one model.

That's how I make everything now.

You should be able to reconstruct any vector model.
I work cross platform all the time,
and sometimes you need to convert,
and sometimes you just need to reconstruct.
