Josh,

Lets generate some interest and run a sample game on here.

Lets roll me a character (lava elf - heavy/cav) and play an online game with images,etc...

I agree, please send me how the images work on here of the dice. For now we can use the square grid for combat. Make a level 1 character, ie six tier one skills. And half of them are one type and the other half are another. (I will post tonight a new "create a character page.)

Its just like the online games. They use BBCode tables to format things (http://sfr-inc.com/bb/faq.php?mode=bbcode)

to show images on the forum you use the BBCode IMG tag.

the trick is just knowing what the image name is. There is a forum topic which lists every image, but thats heavy on the server to serve every image every time.

so I like to use http://www.sfr-inc.com/dcm.php and when you see the image you want onscreen you rightclick and (in firefox) can do 'copy image location' and just paste that into your post....

so I already picked the two dice for my character. Heavy/Cav. I just need you to QM.

I thought you would say that Smile give me a bit then, I will post something later tonight. Is your character a girl? Kinda sounds like a girl name. Also how should we determine the grid, please post an example of the grid and I will test placing dice in the squares.

Born from boiling geysers, the Scalders have been reeking havoc on different nations of Esfah for some time now. The Scalder villages lies in the barren tundra of the Shadowlands, beneath the tall peaks of the Frostwings' mountains. The Frostwings do not allow the other races to come to their land, for they have been betrayed once before. Lately the strong walls of ice created to fortify the Frostwing kingdoms are all but puddles of water.

Uendilor, the king of the Lava Elves, has grown restless of his kingdoms being destroyed and wishes to take the fight to their home. The clever king knew he could use the Frostwings' recent problems to his advantage. Uendilor decided to send one of his best men to negotiate a temporary truce with the Frostwings. They needed to cross their mountains so he could send his armies to the source of destruction. Vierintra is one of the Lava Elves' best warriors, he is very skilled with a sword and quick on his feet. Uendilor knows that if he fails to negotiate, Vierintra could always force the Frostwing's hand with his sword.

The blistering winds of the Shadowlands show no mercy. As Vierintra was climbing its bitter mountains, the cold was beginning to take its toll on the determined Lava Elf.

Here you must make a save roll to determine if you character can withstand the unbearable chill winds. Once you tell me your roll I can determine if you succeed or take damage based on your roll.

*There is a basic chart that tells a Quest master what a character needs to pass a noncombat roll. These are of course guidelines and a Quest master can change the result needed.

Do I need to pick professions? based on my starting dice I think it would be...

Lol yes that would make you Circusfolk. Its the new monster for the Feral Smile

In this case I would say you do not get your Highland bonus, because you are out of your element. If it were extreme heat, like say a volcano, I would allow your racial.

So in this case you got one result, so you will take two damage. You did not do well but you will still get some Aventure Points (working name for non combat experience)


Tracking through the snow you hear something shifting up ahead. Just then a icicle flies past your face, grazing your cheek. With the wind dying down you can make out a winged figure standing atop a snow covered tower. You hear the figure bellowing with laughter.

"Little elf, you are foolish for coming up here! You look cold, would you like a blanket," he said with a sarcastic smirk.

Ok so here we will for Initiative. We will each roll and count maneuver results. The lowest number chooses which square they wish to start in. The next lowest then chooses their square. This allows the people who roll the highest to have an advantage of where they want to start. (I am thinking this might work better as a 4x4 or hexes, but we will try the 3x3 for now.) I rolled 3 results.

then I'm not gonna save well at all... my expected saves with these 6 dice are 1.5 +- 1.03. so 68% of the time it'll be between 0.5 and 2.53 (i.e. 1 or 2)

Do I know what terrains are in each of the 9 hex's yet or do you decide that after I place?

Also forgot to mention, you cannot see the enemies dice. That would be like seeing a enemies stats in dnd. But you know its a frostwing, and judgeing by his skill with that icicle, he is most likely a archer

so moving away from the idea of a bonus for doing the attack type that is shown on the terrain?

Yeah forget the bonus of the attack type, keep it simple. Probably wont use that idea.

The center will also be highland.

Ok the enemy will start at eight.

Start of the turn he will move to the center and attempt to shoot missle at you.
He rolls 3 results.
