And this time, you'll be facing... The Goblin Horde! Lets see if my version 2 performs better than the first.

Since all but a couple of my units dies last time, my revenge will hopefully be brought back in the form of the Undead.

Starting with Dragonkin:

2 Dragonhero
1 Dragontroop
3 Dragonspy
1 Dragonscout
2 Dragonmount
1 Dragonfoal

Dragons:

1 Black Wyrm
1 Ivory Wyrm

Terrain:

Minor:
2 Coastland Knolls
1 Wasteland Village
1 Wasteland Bridge

Major:

Home Terrain:
Wasteland Standing Stones

Frontier Terrain:
Coastland City

Armies (taking the 18/17/1 advice):

Horde:

1 Skeleton (1pt)

Home:

1 Minor Death (4pt)
1 Lich (3pt)
1 Heucava (2pt)
3 Zombie (3pt)
2 Wraith (2pt)
2 Apparition (2pt)
1 Skeleton (1pt)

Frontier:

1 Minor Death (4pt)
2 Mummy (6pt)
2 Wight (4pt)
1 Silver Medallion (4pt)

Maneuver Roll for Frontier:

Mummies: Melee
Wight 1: Save

Wight 2: ID Icon (2)
Minor Death: Maneuver (4)
Silver Medallion: Wayfare (4)

10 Maneuver

Assuming I win that roll, I place my Coastland and rolled a 4 - Missile

Home Distance Roll:

Rolled 7 - turn down to 6 for Melle

I think that's everything.

In trying to be as fair as possible, I did not look at ANY of your unit selections prior to hitting submit for my set-up. I had also previous to receiving your post decided that I would use the Undead (I mention this in passing, not because I don't think you think I'm dishonest).

I'm really interested to see how this will go.

If I'm looking at this right, you pretty much have an army made up of Muggers, Wardog Riders and Hedge Wizards, right?

In looking at your Frontier Army, I should easily crush the Maneuver roll getting the terrain and you'll have first move.

As a generic curiosity, I've been assuming you're a male, but have no idea of age, marital status, kids - what have you.

For my part, I'm a 42yo guy, married (16 years this past Friday) with one (currently international boy child) who is hoping the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup tomorrow.

If we can trust each other on die-rolls, I'm quite sure army construction shouldn't be an issue Smile.

That's correct.

There is a small issue here, as the game usually starts with a horde roll, not a frontier roll. Even though the frontier is affected, the roll takes place in a different location.
Now, it seems like you intended your frontier army as a horde army, so I'm entirely ok with you changing them around. You can even keep or reroll your result if you want.

Its nice of you that you take an interest in the person on the other side of the board, definitely a good thing! I must admit that I already did a bit of research on you, as I looked up your restaurant and probably even spotted you on a youtube video or two.
About me: I'm a 27 year old male. I'm currently struggling to finish my study philosophy, working as a mail man to pay my rent, and spending my remaining time on playing games, a little climbing, and listening to music. There's a picture of me on these boards, maybe I'll look it up for you again, but for now I'll just try to finish this post :/.

There is an issue with your dragonkin at the moment, since you are allowed to bring 12 points of health to a 36 point game. Also, I assumed you'd be taking black dragonkin Wink.

As for my horde roll - I'll just stick to the results rather than posting 18 images again...
4 id
8 maneuver
4 melee
3 saves

Result: 12 maneuver

F

edit: I did it! Yay! Whoo!

edit 2: ah, I remembered I had a question about the silver medallion as well. Why did you choose it over a bronze or a gold medallion? Both are quite certainly more useful for your army (almost any army in general) as the silver logo doesn't bring anything back form your BUA.

OK, right...forgot that the Horde army is the one that rolls. Well, my armies are where I wanted then regardless.

So Maneuver for Frontier Terrain choice:
My Horde Army Roll: Skeleton does actually manage to roll 1 Maneuver. So the Skeleton will pray to the darker forces that you roll nothing.

The Frontier decision doesn't influence activity at my Home, so we'll leave that terrain as it is.

Waiting your rolls for your Home and the Frontier Terrain and then it should be my move, right?

My horde roll was 12, so I get to choose whether to go first or choose terrain. As I am slightly scared of the melee potential of your home army, I choose to go first and let you choose the frontier (you can still pick mine if you want Wink)

My terrain roll - Home:
niiice...

This makes the board:

note: I assumed you'd still choose your Coastland over my Swampland. It doesn't affect my first turn, but if you'd rather have the Swampland, that's ok as well.

Good luck and have fun!

My first turn
  • Spell and effect expiration: none
  • Initial Effects Phase: none
  • Dragon Attack Phase: none

  • First March: @ my home
    Maneuver: yes

Result: 2 x 2 = 4 maneuver, enough to beat your skeleton. I'll turn the terrain down to 1.

    Action: Magic

Result: 16 magic, double Id's for 20 magic in total

6 black - Open Grave on my army at your home
4 black - Deadlands on my Home terrain.
5 gold - Transmute Rock to Mud (TRtM) on your army at your home
3 gold - Summon Dragonkin (Scout)
2 gold - Stone Skin on my army at your home

  • Second March: @ your home
Maneuver: yes, do you oppose? I assume you do, so:

Result: 8 maneuver (that's a lot of axes though...)

Unless, I really screwed up, and I'm looking at my set-up post, I think you flipped my Home and Frontier Armies.

And I will keep my Coastland at the Frontier to ensure use of my Minor Terrains.

I don't know if this will change any of your turn.

I will not be on again (at least to move) until about 6 hours from now, which should put you around 1am.

Some luck to you...I'll save best of luck for me. Laughing

Oops, I did indeed. Weird. I'm slightly less afraid of your real home army, but I'll keep the rest of my turn the same.

Apparently the 'kin didn't want to be separated from the family...

Eliminate 2 Dragonspies and a Dragonmount.

As for the Silver Medallion...I have to admit that I'm confused by your comment/question.

Are you asking why I didn't use a different magic item or just a different color medallion? If why not a different magic item, I just wanted to give the medallion a try. If why not a different medallion, I must be missing something, because the information I'm seeing shows all three as identical except for color. Confused

Let me know. Thanks.

I was aiming at the choice of medallion-colour.

Ah, not quite! Their logos have substantially different effects, depending on the type of metal:
Quote:
SFR/TSR Logo (Bronze Medallion): Normal (magic action); Unique (non-magic action, save, or non-maneuver avoidance)
During a magic action, generates magic results of any color. During any non-magic action, save roll, or non-maneuver avoidance roll, counts as a Cantrip that can cast any color spell from the spell lists (basic or racial).

SFR/TSR Logo (Gold Medallion): Special (any non-maneuver)
During any non-maneuver roll, returns one non-dragonkin buried unit to the DUA or you may immediately bring back up to four health-worth of units from your DUA to the army carrying this medallion.

SFR/TSR Logo (Silver Medallion): Special (any non-maneuver)
During any non-maneuver roll, returns one buried magical item to the army this medallion is a part of or one buried Dragonkin to the summoning pool.

As you can see, the silver medallion doesn't do a lot for you, as you don't use any other items and you'll need to get your dragonkin buried before it can actually do something. A bronze medallion, however, might give you a neat spell in a pinch (Burning hands on that unit that just rolled 4 melee). The gold logo might be the most brutal of them all, allowing you to simply return 4 health back to life (that's an equivalent of 12 magic!) in an instant, or unbury a buried unit, something almost no other die in the game is capable of.

See, I was only looking to the rules on page 45 of the PDF. I totally missed the SAI portion.

I guess that yeah, I'll have to "go for the gold". How long have you been playing? You're very good at this rules stuff.

Thanks. My first game must have been in somewhere in the previous century, but I believe 2010 was when I really got back into the game. Though it does help that I've played a slightly similar game on quite a competitive level, and simply love (nice) rulebooks Smile. Also, after a good amount of games, the rules become integrated in the way of thinking about the game - practice helps a lot.

Rolled for 6 Maneuvers (so 0 with TRtM).

Does the TRtM last until the start of your turn or mine? I think yours based on language.

Thanks.

Finally getting to the game after watching my Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup.
